Capitalism - the horror....the horror...Michael R. HamiltonJune 6, 2004I had a conversation today that was typical of the communist mentality. I was working on my brakes today in the middle of the afternoon and one of my neighbors came over to talk to me. We haven't been neighbors for very long and have talked very little politics. His name is Paul. I won't give you his last name, because...well, I don't remember his last name. He said that he might be getting a contract soon installing rebar for some warehouse or some such construction job. He said that he did not want the "union" to get wind of it, because he is a retired iron worker and he could get into big trouble for working a "rat" job. Not ever having been a member of a union before I had to ask, "What's a rat job?" He said a rat job is a non-union job. I mentioned that maybe 100 years ago there may have been a need for unions, but today I didn't think they were necessary. I hem-hawed around a bit about why I thought so and he interjected with, "They're communists. Thats where the word comes from. Comm UNION." I could not beleive that I was hearing this from a union member. He informed me that he was a Marxist Communist himself. He said that is how the United States was set up. He started going on about how capitalism was evil and the big corporations were basically enslaving the working man and communism is where they get their freedom. I asked him why communism has failed economically everywhere it has been used on a national level. His response was, "They failed because of capitalism. Economics is capitalism." I dropped my head in dismay, looking at the flip flops on my feet wishing I had my manure boots on. I attempted to explain to him that all types of societies had an ecomomy, but it was too late. The conversation started out relatively calm, but did not last long once he started hearing that my opinion was an opposing one. It wasn't long before he was doing what many from the left do, he talked more loudly and kept talking over me to avoid hearing what I was saying. Even when I pointed out to him that he was talking over me, because he was afraid of hearing an opposing opinion because it may be more logical, he kept ranting. He is a war veteran, you see. He ended up walking back to his place ranting the whole way that he "committed murder for this country." He committed murder for freedom for this country. This is what the communist movement has taught their flock. I believe it fair to call the masses who buy into the communist movement a flock, because they do follow like sheep. They refuse to hear an opposing opinion because it is an attack on the their belief system that has been drilled into them for many years. They even will go so far as to disrupt public speakers who bring an alterior opinion to the public. They called that freedom of speech. Paul hated capitalism, because he has been taught that capitalists are big corporations. He did not understand that his bid on the construction job to do the rebar work was capitalism. I even asked him if he was against the peasant who set up a fruit stand on the street corner to sell his fruits and vegetables to raise money for his childrens' clothing. This of course was one of the many questions I asked him that went unanswered. He typically just avoided the subject all together and paroted something that had obviously been drilled into him for twenty years while he was in the union. He didn't even get the fact that he was a hypocrit. So, let us clarify for all who dare to read here what capitalism is. Capitalism is the free and unhindered trade of your labor for a profit. It is done by individuals who dare to take a chance on operating his or her own business and by corporations alike. Corporations hire others to provide the labor that will be turned into a profit. Those laborers who work for the corporations are not slaves as is frequently taught them by the communist movement, they are voluntary workers who have agreed with the corporation to provide labor in exchange for a wage or salary. They do this for the security of a pay check. Security that is not awarded to those who risk their capital on the business venture the laborer is working on. Those who are brought into the communist fold are taught that corporations are bad for not wanting to share the big profits with the workers. Now, the workers could pool their resources and start their own business venture, but then where is the security in that. 'Tiss easier to take from others than to build for oneself. Does this make them thieves? What everyone must understand about capitalism is that it only works well for the little guy when it functions without the interference of goverment regulation. What many people, communist or not, do not understand is that big business supports whole heartedly government regulations. Most people will admit that customer service provided by most small businesses far exceeds that of the large corporations. What better way to get rid of the competition than to have it regulated away. Let's, for example, put double hulled fuel tanks in the ground to store gas in at gas stations. That year (1998) 20,000 small business gas stations across the country closed their doors, because it was cost prohibitive for them to adhere to the new big brother business regulation financed by big business. Big corporations just went on with business as usual. So, when the communist movement finally figures out that capitalism is a good thing, because it gives them the same chance that big corporations have, then they might start to comprehend that it is government regulation that makes it evil. That is what ties the hands of the everyday worker and sets the big corporation free. Defend Freedom™ |
